Fossils from Monmouth County, New Jersey

Plants (Plantae)

Plant remains in the common Jersey streams mostly consist of small pieces of sideritized/phosphatized wood and pieces of pyritized lignite. The lignite becomes very unstable after it dries and almost always crumbles. Sometimes the pieces of wood will also contain clam borings.
